“Hey Mom! Quick question. We went to a cave today and it was cool but I didn’t love it because I just don’t love caves. I felt safe, I just didn’t like it that much. Tomorrow there is a tour to 3 caves and in one it’s completely black. Should I go? I might just hang out here and relax. I am worried I would regret not going but probably not. I can’t decide. What do you think?”
“Go. Have an exit plan & remember to exhale longer than you inhale and you can not panic. Maybe even tell one of the guides or your friends about your fears. If you decide to stay back. Forget them and enjoy. Really can’t make a mistake here.”
“I went!!!! And it was so amazing. The first cave we went to was Paradise Cave. It is the largest cave in the world and was only discovered two years ago. Then we went into the Dark Cave. We walked in a ways and only had headlamps on and also swam in complete darkness. I’m very glad I went. It was amazing.”
“I knew you could do it. Now you will never be afraid of caves again. So healing. No one can take this away from you-your ventures into the depths of the biggest cave and then the darkest cave. It’s yours forever to hold. So proud of you.
And even though she has doubts about me blogging about our inter-continental relationship as mother and daughter. I don’t. This is my dark, big cave and I’m swimming in a black hole here also. Definitely with fear but I’m not turning back. This is mine to hold forever too.
