You have the power in you to dramatically help in your own healing, no matter what challenges you may face.

Initially after being diagnosed with breast cancer, I felt incredulous and angry. How could this happen to me? What was God thinking when he chose me for this aggressive illness?

A friend came over to pray for me and shared these powerful words: “Julia, don’t ask why. Just praise God and focus on getting better. Our ways are not his ways. Our thoughts are not his thoughts. His ways are higher than our ways. His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.”

I turned to my church prayer group for comfort. Shortly after, I was able to discontinue my pain pills and begin writing and painting again. Whenever fear overcame me and exhaustion overwhelmed, I turned to prayer. I asked my friends and family to pray the 91st Psalm: “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, abides under the shadow of the Almighty … and he shall give his angels charge over you to keep you in all your ways.”

I was healed by a combination of God, traditional medicine and Ayurveda, which I discuss in more detail on my health page. There are many other alternative cancer treatments out there; The Truth About Cancer by Ty Bollinger and Square One by Chris Wark are two excellent resources. The Gershon, plant-based and ketogenic diets are all popular for those suffering or recovering from cancer.

I chose Ayurveda because it’s old — 3,000 years old, intuited by sages — and therefore inspired by God. I also like that it’s not a one-size-fits-all diet, but rather a method of listening to your body and adapting based on your energy type. And most importantly, it works.
